Categories

Categories are the top-level groups that organize your menu items. Think of them as the sections a customer sees when browsing your menu — Burgers, Sides, Drinks, Desserts, and so on. A well-structured set of categories makes it easy for customers to find what they want and place orders quickly.

Creating a Category

To create a new category:

  1. Go to Menu Setup in the sidebar.
  2. Select the Categories tab.
  3. Click Add Category.
  4. Enter a category name (e.g., "Main Meals", "Cold Drinks").
  5. Click Save.

That's it — your category is ready. You can now start adding items to it.

Keep it simple

Use short, recognizable names that your customers will immediately understand. Instead of "Artisanal Hand-Crafted Beverages", just say "Drinks". Clear category names help customers browse faster, which means more orders.

Reordering Categories

The order of your categories determines how they appear on your menu in the customer-facing ordering screen (FOS). You can rearrange them at any time using drag and drop:

  1. Go to the Categories tab in Menu Setup.
  2. Click and hold the drag handle on the category you want to move.
  3. Drag it to the desired position.
  4. Release to drop it in place.

The new order is saved automatically. Customers will see categories in exactly the order you set here.

info

Category order is reflected on the Front of Store (FOS) immediately. There is no separate "publish" step — once you reorder, the change is live.

Deleting a Category

If you no longer need a category, you can delete it:

  1. Go to the Categories tab in Menu Setup.
  2. Click the delete icon next to the category you want to remove.
  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted.
What happens to items in a deleted category?

When you delete a category, the items inside it are unlinked from that category — they are not deleted. Those items remain in your item library and can be reassigned to another category at any time. You will not lose any item data.

Best Practices

  • Aim for 4-8 categories. Too many categories can overwhelm customers. Too few can make it hard to find specific items.
  • Group logically. Put yourself in the customer's shoes. Would they look for "Fries" under "Sides" or "Snacks"? Pick whichever feels most natural for your menu.
  • Review periodically. As your menu evolves, revisit your categories to make sure they still make sense. Remove empty categories and consolidate where it helps.
  • Use consistent naming. If you operate multiple locations, keeping the same category names across all of them makes your brand feel cohesive.
